Chronic Pain + Illness

Finding Relief When Nothing Seems to Help

Chronic pain is exhausting in a way that's hard to put into words, especially when you've seen specialist after specialist, run every test, and still don't have answers. Maybe nothing significant shows up on your scans. Maybe no one can pinpoint a clear diagnosis. And yet the pain is very, very real.

I want to say this clearly: I believe you. The pain is real. You are not making it up. And there is a reason it's there — one that is increasingly well understood, and one that can change.

What is Neuroplastic Pain?

A significant and growing body of research now points to something called neuroplastic pain — real, significant pain that occurs without ongoing structural damage to the body, or that persists long after an injury has healed. Neuroplastic pain develops when the brain and nervous system become stuck in a protective loop, misinterpreting safe signals from the body as dangerous and generating pain in response.

This often happens during periods of prolonged stress, fear, or physical discomfort, when the mind and body learn to expect danger, even when that danger is no longer present. Over time, the nervous system becomes increasingly sensitive, amplifying sensations that might otherwise feel mild or go unnoticed entirely.

If you've been living with chronic back pain, neck pain, headaches, pelvic pain, or widespread body aches that no one has been able to explain, this may be what's happening. And here's the hopeful part: the brain that learned this pattern can also unlearn it. Your pain has a source, and that source is changeable.

What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)?

PRT is a revolutionary, research-backed approach to breaking the cycle of chronic pain. Rather than simply managing symptoms, PRT works by teaching your brain to accurately interpret signals from your body, so it stops generating pain when there is no real structural threat.

In our work together, we'll gently help your nervous system recognize safety again. This process isn't about ignoring your pain or pushing through it. It's about teaching your brain a new story, one where your body doesn't have to stay on high alert. As these new patterns strengthen, many people notice their pain softening, becoming less frequent, and in many cases, resolving significantly.

PRT honors both the science of the brain and the lived reality of chronic pain. With support, patience, and the right tools, healing is genuinely possible.

CBT for Chronic Pain

Living with chronic pain doesn't just affect the body — it affects everything. The anticipation of pain, the worry about symptoms being triggered, the concern about keeping up with your life when you feel this way, it's a heavy load to carry. Many people living with chronic pain also navigate persistent anxiety, low mood, or a sense of helplessness that makes the pain feel even more inescapable.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps identify and gently shift the thought patterns that keep you stuck in cycles of anxiety, depression, or shame around your pain. When we experience something, our brain creates a narrative about it and sometimes that narrative isn't accurate. With CBT, we'll look at whether your brain is making any errors in interpretation and work to build more grounded, helpful ways of understanding your experience.

You don't have to feel this way. There is a way out, and we can find it together.

How We Work Together

My approach to chronic pain combines PRT, CBT, and mindfulness-based tools tailored to what works best for you and your nervous system.

Together, we'll:

  • Understand whether your pain may have a neuroplastic component and what that means for your healing

  • Use PRT techniques to gently retrain your brain's interpretation of body signals

  • Identify and shift the thought patterns that are amplifying pain or keeping you stuck

  • Build tools to manage anxiety, low mood, and the emotional weight of living with chronic pain

  • Develop a sustainable, personalized plan for long-term relief and wellbeing

This work moves at your pace, with patience and genuine care for your whole experience, not just your symptoms.
